Visbox, Inc. Announces Affordable Multi-Screen Immersive 3D Display System
Champaign, Illinois (November 1, 2006): Visbox, Inc., a provider of display solutions for high resolution and immersive 3D applications, is pleased to announce the VisBox-X3. The VisBox-X3 is a reconfigurable large screen immersive display module. It features a borderless screen mount, allowing multiple units to form various surround screen configurations. VisBox-X3 modules are more affordable than comparable displays, significantly lowering the cost of ownership for multi-screen immersive systems.
Each VisBox-X3 is a self-contained module and can be used as an independent immersive 3D display. It has a large 10' wide by 7.5' high rear-projection screen and an overall depth of 7.5'. The module has hidden casters for easy movement, enabling multiple units to be quickly reconfigured. Configurations include large flat wall displays, faceted theaters, and immersive room environments. Immersive displays built from VisBox-X3 modules are also easily expandable. If more capability is needed, additional modules can be added to an existing system.
Two VisBox-X3 modules were recently installed at the Computer Science department at Virginia Tech University. The 3DI (Three-Dimensional Interaction) group, headed by Prof. Doug Bowman, will use the displays for their research in interaction techniques for immersive virtual environments. Prof. Doug Bowman explains, "We are very excited about the possibilities afforded by our new X3 displays, especially for our research on the benefits of immersion. The reconfigurability and expandability of the X3 will allow us to evaluate user performance and preference with a wide range of display form factors, fields of view, and levels of surround."
