Jason, I'm glad you like the game! I think the price is reasonable compared to other games, but I'll keep your comment in mind.

Brad, about #1, you can get an international money order at your local post office. I will also allow international orders through tradesafe soon. I can't do anything about #2. :-)

  • Comments: GREAT GAME! I know the price is not a lot, but my parents don't want me to send 10 dollars... Anyway, PLEASE put the full version up for download! I would be sooo happy!! Am I taking this a little seriously?? Who cares! LOL From Yoshi :o)

Thanks! I'm glad you are having fun with the game. I run my own web server and so I have to keep the online version very small so that it loads fast for everybody and doesn't swamp my server! :-) The full version has all the extra goodies and so it takes up a lot more space. BTW, the full version now comes on a super-cool mini CD that is the size of a credit card! You can stick it in your pocket and take it with you anywhere! I will post a digital camera picture of it in the next couple of days.

  • Comments: Paul, Not many people here. I'm going to try and buy the full version. Little CD sounds cool. Howsit work and howdja do it.

    Alex,

I think everybody is busy playing the game! :-) I've been getting a lot of downloads. The little CD works in any standard CD-ROM drive. If you open your CD-ROM, you will notice that there is a smaller, inner ring. The CD fits right in there. If for some reason your CD-ROM drive doesn't like it (which is unlikely), I will be happy to replace it with the disk version.

How did I do it? The mini CD's have been around for a little while. They are normally used as "smart" business cards for marketing. I thought that putting a game on one would be a lot more fun than ads.

The mini CDs are very very cool! However, I am making them in small quantities, so my costs are kind of high right now. Recently, I was at a store and saw that Pokemon comes on mini CDs now! I guess somebody had the same idea that I had. However, I'm sure they make those in huge quantities. Their costs are probably much less than mine and they charge $8.

So, let me turn the question around on you! :-)

How much cheaper would I have to make it so that you would buy it?

  • Comments: Katie, it costs heaps to make games for PSX or N64. However, I know where to buy a program that lets you make your own PSX games. If you want to know more about it either reply to this or send me the full version of this game. LOL But you can always hack a PSX CD and then test it with Bleem! (Bleem! cost $30 and i will send it to you for free for your broomsticks full version) LOL Also, it's a pretty good game i just wish i was allowed to send $10 dollars :(

Brad is right. Consoles are generally "closed" platforms. This means that you are supposed to use expensive development tools that come from the console manufacturer. Of course, there are people who hack and reverse engineer consoles. I've found a bunch of stuff but I don't really have the time to get into this sort of thing.

However, Sega Dreamcast announced that they will have a web browser that supports Java. This means that you will be able to play the online version of Broomsticks on a Dreamcast. I'll have to look into this...

Still, Brad, I'm interested in the program that you mentioned.

I normally do really high end 3D graphics for million dollar Virtual Reality Systems. You can read more on my homepage. That stuff is amazing! However, very few people have access to such equipment.

  • Comments: PSX are also hard to emulate, as you need the CD to play it on the PC, therefore you can NOT play PSX games on your PC illegally. You can also plug your PSX controller into your computer. Or, you could get a TV tuner and watch TV and play PSX gameson there without needing good graphic cards(like me, i got a 2D graphic card...)

True. However, if anything I am looking for the opposite - a Java Virtual Machine (a Java emulator) for the playstation. My game already runs on the PC.

A full-fledged 3D Quidditch game with all the balls and player positions would be awesome. I am sure that, especially after the movie is released next year, there will probably be a number of top notch Quidditch games in computer stores. For now.... yours rocks!

    Thanks Rod!

    SimCity 3000 costs $40 American. :-)

Most people tell me that the price is quite reasonable. However, I'm open to suggestions. I want as many people to have it as possible.

  • Comments: 1.What program did you use to make the game? 2.Don't you need to have J.K. Rowling's permission to sell a game based on her idea?

I wrote the game from scratch using the Java programming language.

I have avoided referring to any names or events from the Harry Potter books. Also, the gameplay (the way that players fly, collide, etc) is based on a game that I wrote when I was about 12 years old! :-)

There are a lot of high budget games out there with great graphics but poor or unoriginal gameplay. In my opinion I think more people should make independent games. Independent games often have a fresh perspective! :-)

owners of the full version (like yourself) can put it on the hard drive by using either "My Computer" or "Windows Explorer". Find the broomsticks folder on your CD drive (usually D:) and drag it to your hard drive. For instance, you can drag it to "My Documents".

McZee, read one of the earlier posts. I need to keep the online version very compact so that all the downloads do not swamp my web server. Lots of people are playing!

  • Comments: I love your game, I know that scince you don't mass order the CD's you need to keep the price pretty high.I was wondering how much room it takes up on your computer, and whether or not you could lower your price for 3 1/2in. floppies scince they aren't as expesive as mini CD's.Your game is awsome though. Even if you can't lower the price I will probobly buy it anyway. I had no idea you did lasetron to it's my 2nd favorite (Broomsticks in 1st) internet game.Well keep up the good work!:) <

That's great! How long have you been playing Lasertron?

The full version takes up a couple of MB. Sounds small, but the online demo version that you have been playing is only 60K! I made the demo very compact so that a lot of people can download it without swamping my web server.

You are right about the floppies. However, I'm trying to phase them out. The mini CDs are so much cooler! :-)

    Soo Shin,

looks like you are having some fun! Have you played against another human opponent? You have to try it, it's a blast!

    Thanks!

Actually, there is a small and fast gold ball in the full version. When you catch it the game ends. However, it avoids players, making it hard to catch.

  • Comments: I think that your game is really cool! and you know how most of the other people think it costs to much i think it does and does't. does because its not 3-d and doesn't because you probably put alot of time and effort into it. ( my dad has his own little home buissness too but hes really a techer.) I live in minneapolis minnesota. How long would it take to send the full-version game to me? And do you plan to make more games? Also how did you get the game to let us move the charecters? Thanks, yours truely

Thanks! It would take a couple of days to send it from here to Minneapolis. I send the game the morning after I receive your order.

I may make more games in the future, we'll see. :-)

As for how the game works, basically the field is redrawn over and over all the time (very quickly). Each time it is drawn, the position of the players and balls is updated. When you hit a key, you are changing your player's velocity.

  • Comments: I have 2 more questions. On the full version, you said you could say how many of each ball you wanted right? so you can pick how many golden balls? And does the full version mini cd work on a laptop?

Yes, you can have multiple golden balls if you want to. My favorite is to have lots of red balls. It's not how the game is normally played but it is very wild! You may be carrying 30 balls and then somebody bumps you and all your balls go flying out! :-)

Yes, if you have a CD-ROM drive on your laptop it should work. You can also get the floppy disk version.

I'm glad you like the game! Sounds like you are a good sport. :-)

If you want to win more often, you can decrease your opponent's skill level. Hit the s key several times.

Good advice, Brad. Of course, it's not that easy when another player gets in your way. :-)
