  • Comments: this is the coolest site i have found in months. did you base this on harry potter(quidditch) or did you just make it up. i want to make my own website but i dont know how? will you tell me? thanks, me and my friends love this game!!!

Yes and no. It is similar to a game that I made a long time ago (before Harry Potter), but I have updated it to fit the Harry Potter theme.

All you need to make a website is to learn some HTML and get a website hoster. There are free ones out there like www.geocities.com.

Thanks! I'm glad you and your friends are having fun with the game.

Try a search engine. Here's one site I found:

    http://members.tripod.com/~plangford/index.html

You can also write a simple program to display it.

    Saana,

you can either link to it:

or if you want to host it on your site, grab this:

The full version has more players (2-on-2) and a gold ball! :-)

Thanks Jewl. My game is not official and so I can't call it that. Besides, it's simpler than the real thing.

Right now you can only get the full version online or by mail order.

  • Comments: Great game! Although simple, it's fun. Needs more realistic looking characters, but I'm sure you're already working on that =) My friends and I enjoy playing the game, even if it is in school time. I am hoping that to upgrade the characters shouldn't be too hard, considering that they were origionally made in a simple paint program. I am also hoping that to upgrade the Buldgers (Black balls), Quaffel (Red ball) and the Snitch (Golden ball) should not be so hard either. I hope that a new version of this magnificent game (Broomsticks 3000) will be released soon enough. Containing all the Quidditch playing balls, proper Quidditch rules, the option to play as different players (Seeker, Goal Keeper, ect.) in a choice of a computer generated team or a network team, and realistic graphics, I'm sure that with all that, Broomsticks would surely get between 7/10 to a great 10/10! I hope to hear a bit of information and conformation about those ideas. Matthew Davis tpga6780@tpg.com.au

    Matthew,

I'm glad you like the game. Changing the characters is very easy. There's a really cool set of characters by Darren Harden in the Characters Gallery. If you decide to make your own characters, send them to me and I'll be glad to post them on this site.

Those are all good ideas but would require a lot of work! If this were my full-time job rather than a hobby then I would definitely take a stab at it. :-)

  • Comments: This game is great. It is exatcly like Quidditch in our world. I have to make this short because I am sneaking on Dudleys computer. He is at the zoo for his birthday. PS: in the Game you should make beaters to hit the bludgers and seekers to catch the snitch. Because all you have in the game is a Chaser.

Thanks! BTW, in the full version there is a gold ball that you can go after.

    Joe,

I am considering a dive button. I just need to make sure it doesn't ruin the gameplay.

I'll think about how to make the computer player more difficult. In the meantime you need to find some competition. :-)

    Joe,

no, it does not fit on the floppy version. :-(

The 3D demo is only for the PC right now (not for Mac) and it requires a capable graphics card. If you fit these requirements but only have a slot CD-ROM drive, I can make you a full-sized CD when you place your order. Send me an email.

I've played other Quidditch games but none are as good as this one. Me and my friends are massive Harry Potter fans, so during breaks we play Broom Sticks and have contests. In the Future you should think about updating the game like, the grapphics, the characters and throw in a couple of beaters to hit the bludgers.

Really?! What do people say about that?

Thanks! I'm glad you and your friends are having fun with the game. Thanks for the suggestions. With the graphics, I'm hoping that more people make their own custom graphics to share with others. Check out the Characters Gallery.

  • Comments: Hi Paul! This is a very very very very very cool game! I love it! I have found it before Christmas and have been playing it ever since! Playing against the computeur is way too easy, I beat it in 2 seconds flat with 50 - nil! Now I play against my sister, and she's good at it too. She can be a real challange sometimes. I really, really, really want the full version, unfortunatly I can't get it because of my father. He claims that the price is too much when it's only $10 of American dollors (I think that's about 20-25 dollers in our money). Because I'm not allowed to get it and I'm sure other kids parents don't let them either, can you please include the golden snitch?????????????? If you can't, that's okay, this is a really cool game any way. If you or anybody else who is reading this have the full version, make some animal characters, ok. That will make this game even cooler! PS. I heard you are making a updated version called broomsticks 3000- when will that be out and how much will it cost?????? Once again, this game rocks!!!!!

    Thanks Veronika!

$10 US is about $18 Australian. I'm sorry that your father won't let you get it. However, the golden ball is part of what makes the full version special.

I have not updated Broomsticks. However, I have the beginnings of a Broomsticks 3D game. It is a free bonus on the Broomsticks CD!

Wow! Thanks for spreading the word!

Making it networked would be a lot of work. In fact, Java applets are only able to network with the host that they are served from (for security reasons). This means that all of the traffic would have to go through my computer. :-(

I'm looking foward to getting the full version!I had a question also.As I read in Quidditch through the Ages, the snitch (small golden ball) is worth 150 points but you don't put it through the hoop, you get points when your seeker catches it, so what happens if you catch the snitch in your game? Do you have to put it through the hoop? If you do, how many points is it worth? Thanks alot, Hermione Granger

In the full version of Broomsticks, when you catch the gold ball, the game is over. However, it doesn't appear right away. You can choose how long it takes to appear.

I'm suprised that there is actually more than one person named Harry Potter (One's in a book, another is in England, and believe it or not, one's a news reporter in Australia). So Paul, there's a 3D version, huh? Even though this may be a bit hard to do... but... can you place a link to download the demo of Broomsticks 3D? If you can't, I'd understand why. Thanks anyway. ~~~~~~~~ Matthew Davis =) PS: Is there any music and sound in Broomsticks? PPS: Broomsticks is a great game, I hope Broomsticks 3D is even better =)

    Matt,

I'm sorry but the 3D game is way too big for me to have people downloading it from my web server. :-(

There are sounds in the full version of Broomsticks.

Thanks! The graphics in the 3D game are excellent (it's a Quake3-style renderer). However, I haven't developed the gameplay much. It's more like practice than the real thing.

  • Comments: Hey! I was wondering if it was possible to re-make and update this wonderful game with a simple game making program (Hence that, it's called... wait for it... Game Maker) and add midi (or mp3) style music and sounds. If you give the "go-ahead", I could make a broomsticks 3000, just like Matthew Davis (Area 51, yeah right!) mentioned. Oh, and for Matt Davis, I'll accept that sorry message. Once again, Paul, broomsticks is a great game (So is CAVE QUAKE 2 and CAVE DOOM)

I don't have any experience with "game maker" programs, so I am not sure. Regardless, using one will definitely not have the flexibility that programming gives you. Still, if you want to try to make a game, go for it. However, there's no sense in remaking the same game, make it unique. :-)

Sorry Paul if I'm sorta treating this as a chat room... but to the mistery person who has "Game Maker" and wants to make Broomsticks 3000... I've already started... well... the title... anyhow, good luck. And Paul, no offence or anything, but the monsters in "Cave Doom" don't really look like monsters, just a heap of angry red bubbles. Good res' though. Oh yeah... if anyone doesn't have a clue about what I'm talking about, go to: http://brighton.ncsa.uiuc.edu/~prajilich/ Bye!

    Matt,

    What is ANZAC day?

Yeah, I'm a programmer, not a modeller. :-) In DOOM, monsters were sprites, so for the CAVE version, I had to make my own 3D models.

BTW, the my webpage is http://brighton.ncsa.uiuc.edu/~prajlich/.

  • Comments: Hey again Paul! I was wondering, how can you build a game like that? This is the best game EVER! Have you read any Harry Potter books? Is there a way that I can download the game? Can you put the Golden Snitch in the Demo? Do alot of people buy this game? Oh well... bye!

    Devin,

I'm a programmer, so I made this from scratch using the Java programming language. Yes, I have read Harry Potter.

You can download the demo here:

    http://brighton.ncsa.uiuc.edu/~prajlich/broomDemo.zip

Sorry, but the gold ball is part of what makes the full version special. Yes, I do get a good amount of orders from all over the world.
