  • Comments: The real game is well pricey.Except for more charachters(that don't matter) the snitch, games with 2 players on each side and maybe a couple of other things the demo preety much the same. Oh yeh the Expert mode is cool

    The full version is much better than the regular version! Being able to add more balls, change the size of the playing field, and add more players makes for much more fun! People who have the full version know what I am talking about! :-)

  • Comments: The real game is so expenseve compared to the demo, I agree with Googa there is not much in it.

    The full version is much better, trust me! There is no comparison!

    Besides, $10 is much cheaper than most games!

  • Comments: Hey Paul and all the users here I was wondering if you would like to use a UBB instead of this guestbook? You can have a look at it here. Note that it is hosted on my server.

    Brad,

    Maybe. I'll check it out.

    One thing that I do like about this guestbook is that I wrote the scripts myself, so I know exactly what is going on...

The 3D game may run ok on a PII if you have a nice graphics card (like a TNT2 for example). END QUOTE Damn. I don't have a 3D card yet, but I'm getting one soon (we aren't exactly rich at my house), it's nice that you remember me though :) Anyway, about the UBB I really only wanted more thits to my site :)

  • Comments: Paul, i love your demo and am thinking of getting your full version soon. but one thing troubles me, how big is the cd and excatlly how does it work? where do you put it in your drive? maybe you could have pictures on your website of the game in the drive. that would be nice for all the people who have the same question as me. ;) one more question. in the full version can you make up the score to play to or is it always 50? thank you! Chris

    Chris,

    The mini CD is the size of a credit card, but it works in any standard CD-ROM drive. If you open your drive, you will notice that in the CD tray there is an "inner" circle. The CD fits nicely in there. Having a picture is a good idea, I may do that.

    Yes, in the full version you can choose the score. Or, you can also choose that the game ends when the gold ball is caught.

  • Comments: Paul, you haven't sent me an email yet. Anyway, do you know C/C++? Obviously you know JAVA but I was wondering if you knew C/C++, as I wanted to know what language you use to code the CAVE. I am learning C++ at the moment, here is my first program. Note that I only started today :) #include int main() { int age; cout<<"Please input your age: "; cin>>age; if(age<20) { cout<<"You are pretty young!"; } else if(age<100) { cout<<"You are middle aged!"; } else if(age==100) { cout<<"You are old"; } else if(age>100) { cout<<"You are really old"; } return 0; } Note that this program doesn't make much sense as the age factors are all wrong, but it's my first program... Oh yes, if you do use C/C++ for the CAVE, which compiler do you use or did you make your own? I use Dev-CPP 4

    Brad,

    I was out of town. Yes, in fact, I use C/C++ much more than I use Java. For CAVE programs, I use the SGI compiler since the CAVE runs off of a million dollar SGI system. When I'm not developing for the CAVE, I'm usually developing for Linux and so I use g++/gcc.

      cin>>age;
      if(age<100)

      }
      else if(age==100)

I mean every time I play lasertron, its always the same. I only see adjustments on the game broomsticks. Nice job on the games anyways.

    John,

    I wrote Lasertron in 1997, so I stopped working on it a while back. Sometime, I should go back and improve it. I'm very busy though, check out my webpage. I make these Java games on the side as a hobby.

And, i heard lasertron comes on the full version of broomsticks too. IS that just a demo or the full version? or is there no full version at all? Im confused :-) -Brandon- Aka ~CheezeBlok~

    Brandon,

    good question.

    There is only one version of Lasertron, so the one on the CD is the same as the one online. However, the CD also comes with a demo of Broomsticks 3D which is not anywhere else. However, to run Broomsticks 3D, you will need a capable 3D graphics card that has OpenGL support.

  • Comments: Hey Paul! I love playing your game, broomsticks. I've played with all my friends and they love it too. Just curious, Brad said something about a player.gif file in the demo. How can you add players to the demo version? I thought that you couldn't. Also, how do you make these extra player files? Do you need the Full version? I want to get it but my mom hates ordering online. Something about scams--whatever. I'll keep trying.

    Katie,

    If you download the demo version, you can change the players image file manually. However, it's not the same as having the full version. The full version has a bunch more options.

    Keep trying. :-)

  • Comments: Hi! A couple of months ago I was searching the web for some good games based on Quidditch. I am so glad I found yours. Broomsticks is fun. It is like no other "Quidditch" game I have played. In most other games you can't even hold the "Quaffle", it just bounces off your charactor. In other games, the "Bludgers" don't hit you at all, and the "Snitch" could fly around for HOURS before it EVER gets caught. Broomsticks, however, is perfect. Start checking your mailbox! My parents said I can get the full version!:-) - Aaron, lover of games of all sorts.

    Thanks Aaron! I'm glad you like the game.

  • Comments: i think your price is to high,sure games out there are like $30-$40, but those games have lots of memory, they are in 3d, and youll probably be playing them longer than broomsticks, and your game is 2d, doesnt use a lot of memory or programming, compared to the games out there, yours is 1/3-1/4 the price! i say at the most sell it for $5,because ive seen 3d games that are $10 and are way more sophisticated than yours,its a good game, but the price is high, thats way half the people that write in this guestbook cant.

    If you think that the value of a program is based on the amount of memory it uses, then you've been using too many Microsoft products! Hahahahaaha! :-)

    No seriously, the full version is a lot of fun and there are many ways to play that will keep you interested. I just got two emails today from people that bought it that said it was the best game that they bought in some time.

    3D games are not necessarily better. I've played a bunch of 3D games that get boring quick. However, if you insist on 3D, don't forget that there is also the Broomsticks 3D game on the CD:

    Broomsticks 3D screenshots

    It is a Quake3-style renderer, meaning that it is on the opposite end of the spectrum (from the 2D game) in terms of rendering technology. You will need a decent 3D graphics card just to run it.

  • Comments: your game is basic, a little complex, but still pretty insignificant compared to other games your price! im trying to make a point that your game is $10, ive seen games for the same price, and they are in 3d,and 20x more complex! im just saying people could buy other games that are better than yours for the same price! and those screen shots are fake, theres no broomsticks 3-d. thats just some other game your developing at cave.

    Are complex games necessarily better? Think about it for a while.

    The truth is that what makes a game good is gameplay. Quality of graphics is also important, but secondary. Why did Tetris sell so well?

    There is a Broomsticks 3D. I'm using some of the same code that I used for one of my CAVE projects, but it is a separate game that runs on regular computers. I have the ability to do really high end 3D graphics (that's my job), but the truth is that most people will probably enjoy the regular Broomsticks more than the 3D one. The 3D one is more complicated and harder to play.

I have read how some people suggested that you put in an option to choose brooms. I have a suggestion just a little different. I think that you should have to earn the right to these brooms by winning matches to get points that you can buy the brooms with. You could also add a single-player campaign.

    Wow! That is a lot of reading. :-)

    That is a good suggestion. Originally, this game was two player only. I added the single player as an afterthought because many people did not have anybody to play against. Having a single-player campaign would be nice...

    No, not necessarily. People will just buy more copies of good games. Games are priced by many factors. Mostly, the cost of developing the game and the cost of distributing it.

    In my case, development costs were low (just my time), but distribution is not cheap because I make the CDs myself in small quantities.

    Really, in the end I chose the price because I thought it was reasonable. Anybody who really wants my game should be able to save up $10.

  • Comments: Great game. Hey, I was looking through the guest book and why people think $10 is expensive is a mystery to me. But whatever.Only one thing that I'd like you to change on the game, instead of saying catch the red ball or don't get hit by the black balls. Say the REAL name like the quaffle and the bludgers. Then if need be, put the red ball or black ball in perenthesses! Being the Harry Potter fan I am, I find it rather annoying. THANX!

    Thanks Marty!

    Actually, since my game is not official, I cannot use those names. Sorry. :-)

  • Comments: One more thing, the name of the game ain't broomsticks. It's QUIDDITCH. So I think you should change the name or it will appear you are stealing the idea of the game from JK ROWLING!

    Again, my game is not official so I can't use that name. Besides, this game is not as complicated as Quidditch, so using that name would probably not be appropriate anyway.

  • Comments: what kind brooms are these? I want a firebolt but i guess i could live with a NImbus 2000 or a 2001 but just dont give me anything lower than a CleanSweep7! I mean, Butterflies are faster than them!

    Try the expert version! :-)

    In the full version, you can set the speeds to whatever you want. You can also change the graphics.
